Safety on the Mountain
Snow Sports can be enjoyed in many ways including alpine skiing, snowboard, telemark, cross country, snow blade, snowbike, or other specialized ski equipment like set skies used by the physically challenged. Regardless of how you decide to enjoy the slopes, always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements of inherent risk in snow sports that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce. Observe and abide to the Responsibility code listed below your experience will be safe and enjoyable.
Responsibility Code:
1. Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
2. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
3. Do not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
4. Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
5. Always use leash devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
6. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
7. Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.
Know the code. It’s your responsibility. This is a partial list. Be safety conscious.
Smart Style
Developed by the top riders from Burton and other industry leaders, Smart Style has three main messages to keep you out there enjoying the hits rather than taking them.
Look Before You Leap
Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know your landings are clear and clear yourself out of the landing area.
Easy Style It
Start small and work your way up. (Inverted aerials are not recommended.)
Respect Gets Respect
From the lift line through the park. Yeah, we all know what the green circle, blue square and black diamonds mean, well the orange oval represents freestyle terrain on the hill.

Helmet Use
Showdown Montana believes that abiding to the Responsibility Code is the best option for safety on the mountain, therefore do not mandate helmet use nor rent helmets. Skier’s Edge Pro Shop in Great Falls or at the ski area during the season offers a variety of helmets.
